BAKU: Azerbaijani Officer May Be Extradited To Azerbaijan : Hungaria

AZERBAIJANI OFFICER MAY BE EXTRADITED TO AZERBAIJAN : HUNGARIAN FOREIGN MINISTER

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / On 18 May, the Azerbaijani
and Hungarian Foreign Ministers, Elmar Mammadyarov and Kinga Hentz,
discussed in Baku, Azerbaijan, the issue on the extradition of Ramil
Safarov, an officer of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Hungary.

Mammadyrarov voiced his confidence that Hungary will take into
consideration Azerbaijan’s position, which encourages a fair approach
to the issue.

The Hungarian minister stated that a trail on the Safarov’s case
is still underway and the final resolution on his extradition will
be made once the process has been completed. The issue will also be
discussed by the justice ministers of the two countries in Budapest
in June," Hentz announced.

On 13 April, 2006 Safarov was sentenced to life-imprisonment by the
Budapest City Court for the murder of an Armenian fellow soldier
during NATO military exercises in Hungary.
