NORTH HOLLYWOOD – The 18-year-old suspect arrested Thursday in the
death of another man killed in a gunbattle was identified today as
Arsen Vardanyan.
Vardanyan was being held without bail on suspicion of assault with
a deadly weapon following an April 26 fight at a Starbucks in North
Hollywood. The fight escalated, police said, and led to a gunbattle in
the 13100 block of Raymer Street in which 18-year-old Marat Manukyan
was killed.
Police were still searching for others involved in the case, including
Manukyan’s killer.
"Nobody indicates this guy’s the shooter," said Los Angeles Police
Detective Martin Pinner, of the North Hollywood Division. "There’s
no evidence he’s the shooter."
The arrest came after officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s
elite Metro unit fanned out before dawn Thursday to serve search
warrants at six locations stretching from Van Nuys to Glendale.
Members of the Eurasian Organized Crime Task Force – composed
of federal, state and local investigators – were assisting North
Hollywood detectives. Task force officers worked their contacts in
the Armenian community and Armenian-speaking officers were helping
translate, Pinner said.
