"We still cannot officially declare that the meeting of Armenian and
Azerbaijani Presidents will be held in Saint Petersburg in June,"
Russian Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Yuri Merzlyakov declared.
"I’ve heard only the public statement of the Armenian President, who
said he is ready to meet with Ilham Aliyev in Saint Petersburg. The
Azeri President has not made any statement yet," Merzlyakov clarified,
adding: "We are, of course, working to organize the meeting, anyway."
Are the parties really close to signing a document? The Russian
diplomat stated: "I cannot speak about signing; the question refers
to the agreement on the principles of settlement."
Turning to the recent statements of the parties, particularly the
phasic settlement of the Karabakh conflict and Armenia’s agreement to
withdraw its troops from the seven regions, Yuri Merzlyakov underlined:
"Certainly, each side speaks about the points favorable for itself
and keeps silent about the others."
