Destruction of a dam in the territory of Armenia has caused water
level increase on the boundary Arax river and flood of the territory
on Nakhijevan-Turkey border. Azerbaijan addressed the Turkish party
to assist in elimination of the flood consequences. Presently, the
municipality of the Turkish Igdir town has supplied equipment for
conducting of bank-strengthening works.

As Head of the Igdir municipality Nureddin Aras told Turan, closing of
the highway between Nakhijevan and Igdir may cause serious damage to
the both provinces’ economy. Specialists think that the water level on
Arax river reached 5,85 m that is above normal by 2,35 m. The water
level was even higher two days ago, having reached 6,72 m. Water
level increase in Arax has also become the reason for flooding of the
boundary Azerbaijani-Iranian market near Shakhtakhty village. According
to the entrepreneurs, working in the market, about 40 stores have been
presently flooded. The flooding is also the reason for non-operation
of Shakhtakhty check point over 12 days hitherto.
