WRESTLING FEDERATIONS OF AZERBAIJAN AND ARMENIA SIGNED AGREEMENT ON PARTICIPATION ARMENIAN SPORTSMEN IN WORLD WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP IN BAKU

The Communique on participation of Armenia’s delegation in the World
Wrestling Championship in Baku on September 17-23 was signed by the
wrestling federations of Azerbaijan and Baku.

As the Day.az reports, the International Federation of the United
Styles of Wrestling (FILA) appeared as a mediator of the agreement
signing. The situation was commented on by vice President of the
European Committee of FILA (CELA) Georgy Bryusov. "When it became
known that the world championship on free-style wrestling, the
Greek-Roman and woman’s wrestling -2007 will be held in Baku, a danger
of refusal of both the Armenian delegation and the Armenian wrestlers
from arrival arouse. The reason is well-known, that is, not simple
political relations between the two countries. Taking into account
the fact that the main selection for the Olympiad-2008 will be made
just at this Championship, the developed situation gave concerns of
FILA and its President Rafael Martinetti who has become the initiator
of the historical meeting in Baku where the President of FILA Rafael
Martinetti, the member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
Taman Ayan and the sport leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the
person of the Minister for Youth and Sports and vice President of
AR IOC Azad Raghimov and the first vice President of RA IOC Razmik
Stepanyan participated. A joint Communique was signed as a result,
in which the Azerbaijani party claims of all the necessary security
guarantees and visa support for Armenia’s delegation. On fulfillment
of all the engagements, the Armenian delegation confirms its arrival
to the World Championship in Baku on Sep 17-23, 2007.
