ANTELIAS, MAY 23, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. Aram I Catholicos of
the Great House of Cilicia, within the framework of the patriarchal
visit paid to Syria, presided on May 19 at the official ceremony
held at the Yesayan hall of Aleppo which was organized by primate of
the Berio Diocese Bishop Shahan Sargisian and diocesan bodies. That
crowded ceremony taken place in honour of His Holiness Patriarch,
the Armenian Church, mission of the Patriarchate of the Great House
of Cilicia and Antelias Dprevank was itself the evidence of that
love, confidence and belief that the Armenians of Syria have towards
the Armenian church and their favourite Patriarch. Noyan Tapan was
informed about it by the Press Services of the Great House of Cilicia.

At the beginning of the ceremony, primate Bishop Shahan, making the
welcome speech, greeted Aram I Catholicos, mentioning that he is today
"the shining presence in the whole Armenian Church with his doubtless
devotion and service." His Holiness also touched upon the mission of
the Antelias Dprevank which during more than 75 years gave important
individuals to the Armenian church and nation "becoming soul and
breathe in life of new generations more that a stone and building." At
the end of his speech Bishop Shahan presented His Holiness Patriarch
an expensive bowl having history of about 250 years.

The main speaker of the day, Taron Avetisian, the head of the reception
commission, touched upon the activity promoted by the Catholicosate
of the Great House of Cilicia in spiritual, educational, cultural
and demanding spheres.

The ceremony was completed by the "Pahpanich" (Protecting) prayer of
His Holiness Patriarch.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
