"RUSSIAN SHOULD PLAY IMPORTANT ROLE IN REGULATION OF NAGORNI-GARABAGH CONFLICT"

"Russian position as OSCE Minsk group co-chair, involved with
regulation of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorni-Garabagh conflict is
very active. We believe that Russian should play important role
in regulation of this conflict". Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Azerbaijan, Elmar Mamadyarov, said it at the joint press conference
held upon completion of meeting with his Russian counterpart,
Sergey Lavrov.
While informing about issues discussed at the meeting, E. Mamadyarov,
said: Useful consultations were held. For the last years development
dynamic of Azerbaijani-Russia relations and commodity turnover
have increased. Our positions in political sphere coincide in many
directions.
Head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan brought to the
notice that during discussions view exchange related to many regional
and international problems was held.
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, S. Lavrov, once again stressed
significance of cooperation with Azerbaijan for his country.
Accordingly to him, Heydar Aliyev founded basis of these relations
and friendly relations between presidents of both states today promote
further development of such relations.
S. Lavrov informed that at the meeting they discussed perspectives of
expansion of contacts between our countries including cooperation in
commercial, economical and humanitarian spheres. Minister informed
that in near future 11th meeting of inter-governmental commission
will be held. Having added availability of bilateral plans in the
field of education, S. Lavrov, said that they also discussed teaching
Azerbaijani language in Russian educational institutions.
Having stressed that both countries adhere the same position on
providing peace and stability in Caucasus, Minister said that the
factor of conflicts exist in the region. He said: "Sides and co-chairs
intensively work for regulation of Nagorni-Garabagh conflict. We
believe that thanks to political will of parties, agreement can be
reached. Russia as co-chair and friendly state will do its best to
achieve such agreement."
