The report on missing persons in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia
will be presented at the sitting of the Monitoring Committee of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), PACE Rapporteur
Leo Platvoet told ArmInfo.
He reminded that the discussion of the draft resolution on "The
missing persons in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia" was expected
during the April session of PACE. "The discussion of the document
during the spring session was postponed because of absence of the
Armenian delegation, which was engaged in the preparation of the
parliamentary elections in the republic," Leo Platvoet noted. The
Rapporteur also informed that the document lays the emphasis on the
fact that 7-8 thousand people are included in the list of missing
persons in the South Caucasus, about whom there has been no information
during the past 15 years. He added that it is very hard for relatives
not to have any information. "Therefore, we attach importance to
the cooperation of state committees of the countries involved in
order to apply the mechanism of the International Committee of the
Red Cross, which provides the opportunity to collect information
about the missing person," the Rapporteur noted, underlining that "
for the effectiveness of the search for the missing, it is necessary
to refrain from politicization of the issue.
