YEREVAN, MAY 25, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Defence Minister Mikayel Haroutiunian
on May 25 handed Combat Cross second category order to Yerevan’s
Nubarashen special regiment. In connection with the 15th anniversary
of formation of National Army departmental awards were also given to
a number of servicemen of the regiment.

The Minister said that by RA President’s decree seven regiments
of Armed Forces, including the special regiment, received high
awards. This subdivision’s creation started as early as in 1992
parallel with formation of the National Army. At first a special
company was created, which afterwards was turned into a battalion, a
detachment, on the basis of which the special regiment was created. In
M. Haroutiunian’s words, there is no border area where the special
regiment has not fought during the war. In Kelbajar, Meghri,
Kapan, Goris, Berd – everywhere the regiment showed high fighting
preparedness, distinguished itself with brave soldiers and commanders,
many of which currently continue serving in the regiment. The Minister
gave assurance that today, in case of attack on country’s borders,
the regiment will again fulful its tasks excellently.

The same day M. Haroutiunian visited Yerevan’s capital regiment,
which by RA President’s decree has been given Combat Cross first
category order.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
