In June, the Serbian weapons manufacturer Zastava Oruzje should geta
permitto export a shipment of arms to Armenia, worth approximately
USD 900,000, it emerged on Wednesday.
The Serbian Ministry of Defence notified the management of Zastava
Oruzje that the export of the second shipment of weapons to Armenia
has been approved byall responsibleministries.
Representatives of the Kragujevac-based factory stated that the
company is going to get an export permit due to the fact that the
attitude of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has changed. Besides,
the ministry estimated that the shipment of arms to Armenia would
inno way endanger the relationship between Serbia and Russia and
would not affect the position of the Moscow authorities on the issue
of the final status of Kosovo and Metohija.
Toward the end of 2006, Zastava Oruzje, with the approval of Russia,
realised the first part of the export arrangement with Armenia worth
USD 1.7 million.
The second shipment of weapons bought by the Armenian Ministry of
Defence has already been prepared and there are indications that the
state would soon start buying off the military weapons and hardware
that Zastava Oruzje has in stock.
