Gyumri Mayor’s Son Involved in Exchange of Fire on May 20

GYUMRI MAYOR’S SON INVOLVED IN EXCHANGE OF FIRE ON MAY 20

YEREVAN, MAY 26, NOYAN TAPAN. The prosecutor’s office of Shirak marz
is continuing the investigation into the criminal case opened in
connection of the exchange of fire at the crossroads of Terian and
Ghukasian Streets in the city of Gyumri on May 20.

According to a press release of the RA prosecutor general’s office,
investigators revealed that on May 20, at 6:00 – 6:30 pm resident of
Gyumri Norayr Soloyan who was in a drunken state, together with
another person whose identity has not yet been established, started
arguing with Rustam Sargsian, owner of Rub-Rus LLC, at the Metelitsa
Bar-Restaurant belonging to this LLC. During the argument, N. Soloyan
splashed a glass of beer on R. Sargsian’s face, after which a scuffle
broke out between them. The scuffle continued in the yeard where
R. Sargsian fired twice at N. Soloyan’s legs from his illegally
obtained Makarov pistol. Having received a gunshot wound in the thigh,
N. Soloyan left the scene of the incident.

On the same day, at about 7:30 pm, there was an exchange of fire at
the crossroads of Terian and Ghuksian Streets between R. Sargsian,
Telman Karapetian, who was in Toyota car (license plate 77 SL 222)
belonging to N. Soloyan, on one side, and Spartak Ghukasian and some
unknown persons in a Hammer H-2 car (license plate 44 TT 440) on the
other.

As a result of this skirmish, Hamaspyur Mnatsakanian was wounded in
the right hand. The police found and confiscated two submachine guns
with cartridges, Makarov and Gold Star Magnum pistols used by R.
Sargsian and T. Karapetian.

During a search in the Golden Hill restaurant complex on May 24, the
police found and confiscated a Mosin gun, two daggers, cartridges of
the following calibres: 77 5.45-mm cartridges, 118 9-mm ones, 73
7.63-mm, 84 5.6-mm and 17 2.8mm cartridges, a cartridge clip for
Makarov pistol and a cartridge clip for submachine gun, two holsters,
a mask made of black fabric and a rubber mask. A ballistic expert
examination was made.

Based on the evidence obtained, the invetigative body on May 24 made a
decision to involve as accused persons R. Sargsian, T. Karapetian and
S. Ghukasian under Article 34-104 Part 2 Points 1, 6 and 7, Article
235 Part 1 and Article 258 Part 4 of the RA Criminal Code. Arrest as a
measure of restraint was chosen with respect to them on the same day
and they were put on the list of wanted persons.

On May 25 it was decided to arrest N. Saloyan on suspicion of
committing the crime by Article 258 Part 3 of the RA Criminal
Code. Policemen were instructed to keep N. Soloyan under control in
the hospital until the respective measure of restraint is chosen.

The police were instructed to take all necessary measures to find the
wanted persons and to establish identities of the others involved in
this crime.
