Armenian officers and doctors will participate in international
peacemaking operations in Afghanistan, Major-General Mikayel Melkonyan,
Chief of the department of international military cooperation
and defense programs of the Armenian Defense Ministry, said at a
press-conference dedicated to the International Peacekeepers Day.
According to him, negotiations are being held with the Greek and
British parties on sending an Armenian peacemaking mission to
Afghanistan. He emphasized that not a military element, but staff
officers and doctors will be involved in the mission. M.Melkonyan
added that a relevant agreement should be concluded with partners. The
implementation of this initiative under the Armenian Constitution
is a durable process: the agreement should be signed, corresponding
procedures should be carried out in the Constitutional Court and
approved by the National Assembly, M.Melkonyan said in conclusion.
