YEREVAN, MAY 29, NOYAN TAPAN. The chairman of People’s Party of
Armenia (PPA) Stepan Demirchian left for the city of Alaverdi in
order to support Larisa Paremuzian, leader of the party’s territorial
organization. NT was informed about it by Ruzan Khachatrian, PPA’s
spokeswoman.
According to her, early in the morning of May 25, some unknown
persons set fire to the door of L. Paremuzian’s apartment by using
liquid fuel poured on a tyre, and it is only thanks to her vigilance
and the help provided by her neighbors that the fire was put out on
time and there were no victims. The apartment of Larisa Paremuzian
is located on the first floor of an apartment building.
A criminal case on the fact of "encroachment on property" was opened in
connection with the incident. However, in the words of R. Khachatrian,
the case is also related to the election process. She said that
L. Paremuzian does not run any business, and she has also been out
of work since 1998, so the crime may have political reasons only.
L. Paremuzian called the incident a "political settling of scores".
According to her, Karen Saribekian, her rival by the majoritarian
electoral system during the parliamentary elections, director of the
local branch of Electric Networks of Armenia company, representative
of the Republican Party of Armenia, who was elected at electoral
district No 31 is the person responsible for the incident.
R. Khachatrian said that the results of elections held in electoral
district No 31 by majoritarian and proportional electoral systems
show that the number of inaccuracies makes nearly 6 thousand. For this
reason L. Paremizian disputed the election results and the prosecutor’s
office made a decision on a re-counting in some polling stations of
the electoral district. The crime was committed on the night before
the re-counting day. No re-counting has been carried out so far.
