US Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Matthew Bryza declared that
Armenia and Azerbaijan have registered "considerable progress" in
the process of settlement of the Karabakh issue. "If the meeting
of the Presidents in Saint Petersburg on June 9 is successful, the
number of discrepancies on the main principles can approach zero,"
the Associated Press quoted Bryza as saying.
In his words, after almost ten years of the international mediators’
efforts the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia are close to
overcoming the remained obstacles on the way of coming to an agreement
on the main principles.
Matthew Bryza underlined some principles which the parties have
already agreed upon. According to him, the two parties have agreed
upon the issue of return of the territories under Armenian control.
At the same time, Bryza did not clarify whether there is an agreement
on the return of refugees.
"The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan deserve appreciation for
bravely trying to bring stability and prosperity to their peoples,"
Mathew Bryza concluded.
