`RALLIES ARE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE’
[12:56 pm] 02 June, 2007
On Children’s Day, June 1, oppositional forces (Impeachment, New Times
and Republic) held a rally near Matenadaran. The rally participants
were again comparatively few.
`No matter how many people attend our rallies, we shall conduct them
as we realise their significance,’ said Aram Sargsyan, the leader of
the Republic Party.
`people inquire when our rallies will finally stop,’ said Vahagn
Khachatryan, the former Mayor of Yerevan and a memeber of the
Impeachment.
`The rallies will not stop unless our athuorities realise that the
power is in the hands of people!’
He reflected on election frauds, presented some facts and urged the
Constitutional Court to recognise the parliamnetary election
invalid. He had a packet of dirty and torn-out ballots from Precinct
17. The ballots cast in favour of Grisha Virabyan, a candidate from
Artashat.
`The ballots were mainly faked by teachers who bring up our future
generation,’ Vahagn Khachatryan said. We must combat against this
phenomenon.
Vahagn Khachatryan also presented the sums spent by the parties at the
pre-election period. The Republican Party spent 79 million AMD and the
Prosperous Armnenia -129 million AMD instead of the fixed 60
million. The money was mainly spent in three Armneian towns – Yerevan,
Gyumri and Vanadzor.
Aram Karapetyan, the leader of the New Times advised President
Kocharian and Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan `not to sit with their
hands crossed’ as people will become more active and rally
participants will increase on the eve of presidential elections.
