DELEGATION OF EUROPEAN SOCIALISTS MEETS ARF REPRESENTATIVES

The joint delegation of the Party of European Socialists and the
European Forum of Democracy and Conciliation will visit Armenia on
a fact-finding mission on May 30-31.
The delegation headed by the ex-chairman of the Council of Europe
Parliamentary Assembly Peter Scheider includes vice-chairman of
the European Parliament Miguel Angel Moratinos (Spain), member of
the European Parliament Dan Sorin Mihalac (Romania), member of the
Dutch Parliament Martin Van Damme, as well as representatives of
the socialist parties from the Netherlands, Sweden, Great Britain
and Slovenia.
The ARF’s Press Service informs that the European delegation visited
Christapor Mikayelian Center of the ARF’s Bureau and met members
of the ARF Bureau Vahan Hovhannissian, representative of the ARF’s
Supreme Board Armen Rustamian, officer in charge of the ARF’s Hay
Dat and Political Affairs Office Kiro Manoyan.
During the meeting that lasted two hours the ARF representatives
presented the ARF’s position on the internal political developments
in Armenia, regional issues and the relations between the two parties.
The European delegation will meet several political parties and NGOs
in Armenia. The delegation will also be received by the Armenian
Foreign Minister.
The Party of European Socialists includes the socialist parties of the
EU members states. The European Forum for Democracy and Conciliation
was founded in 1993 by the social-democratic and political foundations
of the EU members states with the aim of supporting the democratization
and reform processes in the Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
