YEREVAN, JUNE 7, NOYAN TAPAN. "At last a new political culture
is created in Armenia: the people did not say "yes" to political
forces agitating hostility: it said "yes" to criticizing, arguing,
disputing forces, which at last give birth to some result, no matter
how much they differ in their political approaches," ARFD Bureau
member Vahan Hovhannisian stated on June 7, at the first sitting of
newly elected National Assembly. According to the political agreement,
his candidature was offered for the post of NA Vice-Speaker.

In V. Hovhannisian’s words, the appearance of the current political
palette is the following: there is a political coalition and a
political force closely cooperating with the latter. Centralization of
left and right centripetal forces happened as a result. V. Hovhannisian
also said that it is clear that neither righ-hand nor left-hand
extremism has a future in Armenia. In his opinion, under new conditions
when NA has wide powers according to the constitutional amendments,
"indeed a good spring-board is created for further developments."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
