BIOGRAPHIC DATA OF NEWLY-ELECTED NA SPEAKER TIGRAN TOROSIAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 8, NOYAN TAPAN. On June 7, Tigran Torosian, NA Speaker
of previous convocation, Vice-Chairman of RPA, was elected NA Speaker
of the fourth convocation.

Below Tigran Torosian’s biography is presented:

He was born on April 14, 1956, in Yerevan. In 1973-1978 he studied at
the Radioelectronic faculty of Polytechnical Institute (Architectural
University), at the same time in Public Profession faculty in
1946-1978.

Since 1978 he has worked in the Mathematical Machines’ Research
Institute as an engineer, then as a chief engineer. In 1988-1995 he
worked as head of the subdepartment and chief research officer.

In 1990 he defended a thesis and received a degree of candidate of
technical sciences. He is the author of 10 inventions and more than
30 scientific works on this sphere.

In 1995 he began to conduct political scientific studies. In this
sphere he is the author of one monography (Post-Soviet Transformation
of Public System), more than twenty scientific and over 200 analytical
articles, which were published in Armenian and foreign periodicals and
collections. In 2006 he defended a thesis and was awarded political
sciences’ doctor degree.

In 1996-1998 he was member of RA Central Electoral Commission, in
1997-1998 editor-in-chief of RPA "Hanrapetakan" official newspaper.

On May 30, 1999 he was elected RA MP by proportional system by the
electoral roll of Miasnutiun Alliance, which was formed by RPA and
People’s party. In 1999-2003 he was RA NA Vice-Speaker, in 2001-2003
Chairman of NA Constitutional Amendments Ad hoc Commission.

On May 25, 2003 he was again elected RA MP by RPA proportional
electoral roll and on June 12, 2003 NA Vice-Speaker. In 2003-2006 he
was Chairman of NA Ad hoc Commission on European Integration Issues
and head of Armenian delegation in PACE.

On June 1, 2006 he was elected NA Speaker.

In 2004-2007 he was Deputy Head of PACE European Democrats’ Group,
in 2006-2007 Vice-Chairman of Monitoring Commission on the errands
and obligations assumed by PACE member countries.

He is member of NA RPA faction.

On May 12, 2007 he was elected RA MP by RPA proportional electoral
roll.

Since 1993 he has been member of RPA Board, in 1998-2005 Vice-Chairman
of RPA Board and since 2005 – RPA Vice-Chairman.

In 2006 he was awarded RA medal For the services, provided for
Fatherland, in 2007 – NKR St. Mesrop Mashtots order.

He is married and has a daughter.
