FORMER DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENCE TO PARTICIPATE IN LEGISLATIVE AMENDMENTS OF THIS SPHERE AS COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 8, NOYAN TAPAN. The lefislative reforms implemented
by the parliament of the previous convocation will continue. The
candidate for the post of chairman of the National Assebly Standing
Committee of Defence, Internal Affairs and National Security Artur
Aghabekian stated this in the parliament on June 7.
Since 2001, A. Aghabekian as the deputy minister of defence has
cooperated with the standing committee and made many legislative
proposals. In his words, he has personally participated in the
development of a package of legislative amendments in the defence
sphere. According to him, in particular, amendments are envisaged for
the introduction of civil positions in defence and the implementation
of popular control. The necessity of clarifying the role of the
National Assembly in the RA Law on Defence was underlined.
