PETITION AGAINST SURRENDERING TERRITORIES TO AZERBAIJAN HANDED OVER TO OSCE YEREVAN MISSION, ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY AND GOVERNMENT
Regnum, Russia
June 8 2007
A petition against surrendering territories to Azerbaijan was handed
over to the OSCE Yerevan mission, the Armenian foreign ministry and
the government. The petition was initiated by Alliance of Armenian
Volunteers Public Initiative, Mitk Analytical Center, Alliance and
World civil initiatives and other organizations.
According to the Alliance of Armenian Volunteers Public Initiative
Secretary Armen Agoyan, the protest memorandum handed over to the OSCE
mission is addressed to OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, who were on visit
in Yerevan yesterday. In particular, the petition says that statements
made by co-chairs Bernard Fassier (France), Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia)
and Matthew Bryza (USA) before they met the presidents of Armenia and
Azerbaijan showed that the talks are held in a wrong direction, which
is absolutely inadmissible for the Armenian people. "Your initiatives
will never be accepted by the Armenian people as it is proposed that
Nagorno Karabakh will be connected to Armenia by a narrow corridor,"
the petition says.
"The discreet format of the talks does not allow people having full
information on negotiations over the issues being discussed, agreed
upon and disputed and on positions of the parties. Seeing the direction
and contents of the current information flows, we believe that if the
talks contain inadmissible concessions from the Armenian side and
if the officials participating in the talks on behalf of Armenia,
including the president, agree to some proposal of the kind by the
OSCE Minsk Group, an attempt to implement it will be met by powerful
contradiction by the Armenian nation," the petition runs.
