Soccer: Armenia Beats Poland 1-0 In Euro 2008 Qualifying

ARMENIA BEATS POLAND 1-0 IN EURO 2008 QUALIFYING

YEREVAN, Armenia: Armenia upset Poland 1-0 Wednesday in a European
Championship qualifying match, with Hamlet Mkhitaryan scoring the
winning goal.

Mkhitaryan scored from a free kick in the 66th minute, curling the
ball over the wall and into the top right corner of the net.

Poland dominated the game and outshot the hosts 5-0 in the first half.

Armenia goalkeeper Gevorg Kasparov blocked Marek Saganowski’s shots
in the 26th and 28th minutes and stopped Marcin Wasilewski’s free
kick a minute later.

Arman Karamyan nearly made it 2-0 on a solo effort down the right
flank in the 45th. Poland goalkeeper Artur Boruc failed to block his
shot and defender Grzegorz Bronowicki clear the ball from the line.

Poland remained at the top of Group A with 19 points after nine
games. Armenia has seven.
