The Armenian State Commission on Captives, Hostages and Missing Persons
confirmed the fact of Valery Suleymanyan’s captivity.

Armen Kaprielyan, Head of the Armenian State Commission’s working group
told ArmInfo correspondent that Valery Kaprielyan fell prisoner on
April 18, 2007, when he lost his bearings on the contact line of
Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan near Martuni. V.Suleymanyan’s wife and
children stay in Martuni. A.Kaprielyan denied the Azeri mass media’s
statement that V.Suleymanyan is a prisoner of war. "Valery Suleymanyan
is a civilian and he found himself on the Azeri side because he lost
his way," A.Kaprielyan emphasized.

The Azeri mass media have kept silence about V.Suleymanyan’s captivity
up to now. The statement made by Azeri mass media on June 11 not only
reports the captivity but also ascribe some propagandist
statements to the captive. Particularly, V.Suleymanyan allegedly
informed Azeri representatives that "the Armenian population of
Nagorno-Karabakh has got tired of the illegal activity of
non-recognized military regime. The Armenian indigenous population has
to hive off". Armen Kaprielyan denied this statement pointblank,
qualifying it as misinformation. According to A.Kaprielyan, the Azeri
side hasn’t yet transferred V.Suleymanyan to the Armenian side,
probably, this is a clumsy response to the situation around Azeri
soldier Samir Mammadov. To remind, S.Mammadov voluntarily crossed the
Armenian border to escape the harassment by his fellow servicemen and
commanders. S.Mammadov refuses to return to Azerbaijan pointblank.
