YEREVAN, JUNE 12, NOYAN TAPAN. The creation of the Standing Committee
of Economic Issues and the Standing Committee of Financial, Credit and
Budgetary Issues in the RA National Assembly of the 4th convocation
instead of the Standing Committee on Financial, Credit, Budgetary
and Economic Issues in the NA of the previous – 3rd convocation is
conditioned by the fact the Standing Committee of Financial, Credit,
Budgetary and Economic Issues "serviced 60% of passed laws, and due
to such a large amount of work it was quite a difficult task to deal
with high-level legislative initiatives." Gagik Minasian, Chairman of
the NA Standing Committee of Financial, Credit and Budgetary Issues,
representative of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), expressed
this opinion at the June 12 discussion.

He reminded that prior to Constitutional amendments, the RA National
Assembly might have 6 standing committees, whereas nowe it may have up
to 12 standing committees. He stated that an agreement has been reached
with the chairman of the Standing Committee of Economic Issues to hold
joint sittings. G. Minasian attached importance to the participation of
MPs – former businssmen in further improvement of economic legislation.

Another participant of the discussion – Khachatur Sukiasian, RA NA
deputy, nonpatisan, founder of CIL Concern, also spoke in favor of the
creation of two standing committees. He said that he prefers to work in
the Standing Committee of Economic Issues because this committee will
hold discussions about tax and customs policies. At the same time,
K. Sukiasian expressed a desire to take part in activities of the
Standing Committee of Financial, Credit and Budgetary Issues during
budget-related discussions. "Let more tired MPs look for seats where
there is little work to do," he noted.

He expressed regret at the fact that former minister of trade and
economic development Karen Chshmaritian will work in the Standing
Committee of European Integration Issues rather than in one of the
standing committees on the economic sector.

Both MPs welcomed the fact that former head of the Center of
Financial Monitoring of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) Nerses
Yeritsian has been appointed the RA minister of trade and economic
developement. According to them, N. Yeritsian is a reformer.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
