892 OUT OF 1000 REFUGEES ARE RELUCTANT TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES

The Refugees and International Law civil society network finished
processing 1000 solicitations of refugees from Azerbaijan asking the
president of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic for support to get compensation
from Azerbaijan for the damages caused by the Azerbaijani government
and criminals. We learned from the organization the solicitations
were filled in by people aged 18 and up.

417 out of 1000 solicitations chosen at random are by refugees from
Baku, 84 from Kirovabad, 77 from Mingechaur, 289 from the region
of Shahumyan, Gerashen and other settlements of NKR occupied by
Azerbaijan, 24 from Sumgait. The rest are from Khanlar, Dashkesan,
Shamkhor, Chardakhlu, Shamakhi, Zakatala, Artsvashen (Armenia),
Fizuli and other places.

Members of families of 178 refugees got killed and members of
families of 147 got injured by the anti-Armenian operations and ethnic
cleansings in 1988-1991.

158 have higher education, 111 did not graduate.

713 people lost all their realty and property. 232 people lost part
of their property.

592 had savings in the Azerbaijani banks, 503 lost their savings.

867 say they were forced to leave Azerbaijan by discrimination and
ethnic persecution. 122 were displaced by the military actions launched
by Azerbaijan, most of them used to live in the NKR regions occupied
by Azerbaijan. 615 pointed to forcible deportation by the Azerbaijani
government. 359 ran away by their cars or hitchhiked.

892 refuse to return to their former places of residence, the others
(people displaced from the NKR regions occupied with Azerbaijan)
are ready to settle down in the territories under the jurisdiction
of the NKR government.

737 describe the moral damage as ethnic and religious discrimination
and forcible deprivation of homeland. The total sum of material
damage as assessed by the refugees is a little more than 112 million
dollars. On the whole, 500 thousand people were displaced from the
territory of Azerbaijan in 1988-1991.

As of now, the Refugees and International Law civil society network
has received over 20 thousand solicitations, which will be extended
to the NKR president after processing.
