YEREVAN, JUNE 13, NOYAN TAPAN. On June 13 the presentation of "Theology
Faculty: annual" and "Armenian theologian" collections, as well as
"Komitas" works took place in the Theology faculty of the Yerevan
State University.

The results of the research, done by the post-graduates and the staff
of professors and lecturers of the Theology and History Faculty of
Yerevan State University in 2006-2007 in the spheres of armenology,
history, theology and the science of religion are presented in the
collections.

Bishop Anushavan Zhamkochian, Dean of the Theology Faculty mainly
talked about the study years of the great composer of songs, his
developments of the sacred music, and the efforts made for the purpose
of gathering and developing the Armenian folk songs in Etchmiadzin
in his Komitas book.

Komitas’ activities as a clergyman are also presented in the book.

In Bishop Anushavan Zhamkochian’s words, the archive of Komitas did
not reach us in an assembled and complete form by the will of fate
and the Komitas studies include numerous unanswered questions. In his
words, the creative inheritance of Komitas, as well as many documents
concerning his life and activities, have not been completely discovered
and studied as yet.

"A number of newly-founded documents are presented in the book which
will help to recognize and characterize the Komitas-phenomenon in
the right way," the dean mentioned.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
