/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "I was not surprised at Vladimir Putin’s statement,
it was expected and interesting.

The proposal is a part of great politics. As to Armenia, there is no
threat to our security, after all the matter concerns only using radar
and not placing missiles," RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian stated.

He said, the situation around the Gabala radar station may harm
Azerbaijan’s prestige, since that country becomes just a game figure
for Russia and the United States. "It is necessary also to take into
account the fact that all this is targeted against Iran. In this
case Azeri-Iranian relations are worsening, and it is difficult to
predict further development of events," Oskanian noted, adding that
if Armenia were offered something similar, he would advise leaders
of the country to refuse, since it is a complicated problem, which
makes the country vulnerable.

He also said Armenia holds consultations wishing to find out more what
in particular that proposal supposes. "We will express our opinion
when we feel that those processes threaten Armenia’ security,"
Oskanian said.

At the same time he underlined that Russia and the United States will
not allow a new "cold war" between their countries. "Relationship
between them may become intense, but Russia and the U.S. will never
break relations, since it does not meet their interests.

There will be differences, but it will not lead to a "cold war", in
other words, Armenia will not have to chose between Russia and the
United States and will be able to keep on his complementary policy,"
Oskanian stated in the interview to "Kentron" TV Company.

During negotiations with his American counterpart George W. Bush
in the framework of the G8 summit in Heiligendamm Russian President
Vladimir Putin offered him to share the use of Gabala radar station
within the American air defense system. Russia leases the Gabala
station from Azerbaijan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
