The problem of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is no longer topical.
Everything is obvious: Nagorno-Karabakh belongs to us, Washington
analyst of Armenian origin Richard Kirakosian said during a
press-conference today.
He believes that the future of Nagorno-Karabakh depends exclusively
on its people.
In his turn, the deputy director of Russia and Eurasia program at
the Center for Strategic and International Studies Cory Welt said
that the preservation of the status quo may well be a solution to
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The status quo may go on for 20 or even 30 years more. This may be
possible for as long as the present balance of power in the region
and the level of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan remain
unchanged. Still, the sides should consider some alternative solutions.
Concerning the possibility of Kosovo’s being a precedent for
Nagorno-Karabakh, Kirakosian said that each example sets a precedent,
while Welt said that each case is individual.
