YEREVAN, JUNE 20, NOYAN TAPAN. "The relations between Armenia and India
are age-old, continuous and characterized by warmth and sincerity. It
is satisfactory that the last decade outlined the strengthening of
our bilateral relations at all levels. I am glad to have the honor to
work with Your Excellency in the name of development of friendship
and cooperation between our peoples," is said in the Indian prime
minister Manhoman Singh’s congratulatory message that the Indian
ambassador to Armenia Ms. Rina Pandei handed to the Armenian prime
minister Serge Sargsian during their meeting on June 20.
Underlining that India is interested in establishing close relations
with Armenia and deepening the bilateral cooperation, R. Pandei pointed
out the practical steps being taken in this direction. She attached
importance to the sitting of the Armenian-Indian intergovernmental
commission held in early 2007 in Delhi, during which the sides
discussed the possible ways and forms of cooperation in a number of
spheres of mutual interest: health care, agriculture, information
technologies, jewelry making, culture, etc. The Indian amdassador
noted with satisfaction that during the sitting an agreement was
reached to open an IT center in Armenia. She said that an Indian
delegation is expected to visit Armenia soon with the aim of examining
the opportunities of cooperation on the spot.
NT was informed from the RA Government Information and PR Department
that at the meeting the sides noted that although the Armenian-Indian
economic relations are developing year by year and a tendency for
growth has been regsitered in commodity turnover, the level of these
relations cannot yet be considered as satisfactory, taking into
account the great potential not fully used.
S. Sargsian thanked the Indian government for its assistance
to Armenia, especially to the country’s agriculture, in the past
years. The Armenian prime minister expressed willingness to continue
steps aimed at developing and strengthening the cooperation between
the two countries.
