YEREVAN, JUNE 22, NOYAN TAPAN. The holding of the First Information
Technology Career Fair is an important step at the current stage
of the Armenian higher educational system’s reforms when practical
results are already anticipated. The RA Deputy Minister of Education
and Science Ara Martirosian said this during the June 22 opening
ceremony at Yerevan State University (YSU).

In his words, the fair is a review of the quality of educational
services provided by Armenian IT companies at universities. He
expressed a hope that "the universities will pass this review, and
the results of the fair will help with our reforms."

YSU prorector Arsen Karamian said that the event was organized on the
initiative of YSU Graduate and Career Center and in cooperation with
similar structures of the State Engineering University of Armenia,
the American University of Armenia, the Armenian-Russian (Slavonic)
University and USAID-financed Competitive Armenian Private Sector
(CAPS) program.

CAPS Director H. Alexander attached special importance to strengthening
the links among enterprises and universities, expressing a hope
that the First Information Technology Career Fair will become an
annual event.

It is noteworthy that during the event, students and graduates of
Armenian higher educational institutions, who are specialized in IT
and seek jobs, had the opportunity to apply to fair participants –
representatives of 30 enterprises operating with local and foreign
capital.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
