AZERI YOUTH AND SPORTS MINISTER SAYS UEFA MADE FAIR DECISION

"In the meeting in UEFA headquarters we offered to play Euro qualifying
matches between Azerbaijan and Armenia in neutral field.

UEFA Executive Committee considered the issue more seriously. It took
all points into consideration and passed such a decision", youth and
sports minister Azad Rehimov told APA-Sport.

The minister said UEFA Executive Committee made a fair decision on
June 23 to cancel the encounters.

"Of course, all Azeri community, footballers and sports organizations
wanted that the match would be played. They all wanted our team to
win over Armenia. The issue got much politicized. Sport is not a
policy and the teams don’t play to wage war. The countries are at
war now. It is not right to play in the situation like this. That’s
why I think UEFA Executive Committee made a fair decision", he said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
