INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC RACE DAY HELD IN ARMENIA ON JUNE 23

YEREVAN. JUNE 26, NOYAN TAPAN. Over 1500 racing amateurs of
different sexes and ages took part in the ceremony dedicated to the
International Olympic Race Day held on June 23 under the patronage of
the International Olympic Committee. This time the Armenian National
Olympic Committee enlarged the program, including also highway cycling,
wheelchair races, and sailing.
Armen Grigorian, the RA Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, welcomed
the participants of the ceremony in Republic square in Yerevan. The
message of the Belgian Jack Rogan, the Chairman of the International
Olympic Committee, was read.
The race started on Amirian street to Mashtots avenue and the bridge
of Victory and ended in the Hrazdan sports ground. Cyclers, racers,
and those in wheelchairs successively took part in the competition.
The prize winners were awarded diplomas and cash prizes of the
Armenian National Olympic Committee, and all the prticipants were
given certificates and sports shirts of the International Olympic
Committee. 71 year-old Jemma Galstian and 87 year-old Vahe Danielian
received the prizes determined for the oldest participant.
