The Armenian government has amended its 2007 national budget,
increasing the total by USD 71.5 million, announced Armenian Deputy
Minister for Finance and Economy Pavel Safarian on June 21.

The initial 2007 budget was drafted with expectations of nine percent
GDP growth for the year. Economic trends in the first five months of
2007, however, led officials to revise the number to an 11 percent
rise, reports the news agency Regnum.

The Armenian budget will receive an additional influx from land
leasing. Estimates fall between USD 11.4 million and USD 42.9 million.

The government also received a USD 2.9 million grant to be used for
transportation development.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
