YEREVAN, June 28. /ARKA/. Armenia’s main objective is to maintain
10% economic growth in near future, said Gagik Minasyan, Chair of
the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic
Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia.

He said that one of the most significant achievements of Armenia for
the recent years has been double-digit economic growth.

"In the post-soviet territory and in Western European countries there
hardly can be found a country, which like Armenia, being in double
blockade and undeclared war, maintained stable 10% economic growth
during 10 years," he said.

Touching upon the challenges thrown by Azerbaijan with its oil
resources, Minasyan pointed out that Armenia is able to withstand them,
not in quantitative, but qualitative meaning.

"I am sure that signals coming from Azerbaijan on the increase of
their military budget, did not reach the aim, as in the 21st century
the issues are not solved by increasing military technique," he said.

Starting from 2002, the GDP growth in Armenia is measured by
double-digit figures (13.2% in 2002, 14% in 2003, 10.5% in 2004, 14%
in 2005). The economic growth in Armenia in 2006 made 13.4%. The GDP
per person made AMD 827,394 or $1,989 in 2006.

The program of the Government’s activities approved by the RA national
Assembly on June 26, 2007, envisages 8-10% GDP growth, which will
allow Armenia by the end of 2009 to join the group of countries with
average income.
