AZERI LEADER MEETS ARMENIAN INTELLECTUALS

28 June: A group of Azerbaijani and Armenian intellectuals visited
Xankandi [Stepanakert], Susa and then Armenia, and met Armenian
President Robert Kocharyan at the initiative of the Armenian and
Azerbaijani ambassadors to Russia in cooperation with the OSCE on
28 June.

On that day the group arrived in Baku from Yerevan. They were received
by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The president once again expressed our state’s position on the Nagornyy
Karabakh conflict. He stressed that the conflict could be settled only
on the basis of the principle of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity
and inviolability of borders and that a high degree of autonomy would
be offered to Karabakh.

TV that the Azerbaijani ambassador’s visit to Karabakh had been agreed

APA news agency, Baku, in Azeri 1015 gmt 28 Jun 07 quoted the head
of the Azerbaijani community of Karabakh, Nizami Bahmanov, as saying
that the visit was aimed at creating mutual trust. He said this had
showed once again that Azerbaijan supported a peaceful solution to
