THIEVES STOLE SEVERAL WORKS BY WORLD-KNOWN ARMENIAN PAINTERS FROM APARTMENT IN MOSCOW

A 71 year-old private collector reported to one of the Moscow
police departments that the thieves had stolen the paintings by Ivan
Ayvazovsky’s from his apartment.
Police said overall 13 paintings by Aivazovsky, a famous
Russian-Armenian painter of sea, Martiros Sarian and Minas, two other
prominent 20-th century Armenian artists and some Russian painters,
were stolen from the apartment by thieves who broke in through the
balcony window of the apartment on the seventh floor.
The collector said the thieves stole also $20,000.
Moscow police said they are specifying the value of these paintings,
the circle of the collector’s close relatives who could know that he
had at his apartment money and precious pictures.
