UN Fund of population UNFPA plans to conduct National researches
on the problem of sterility in Armenia. As deputy representative
of UNFPA in Armenia Garik Hayrapetyan told ArmInfo, the researches
will allow to get the real picture of reproductive opportunities of
RA population and determine the reasons for sterility, as well as
develop sterility prevention plan.
According to the latest data, every Armenian woman makes two or
three abortions on average over her whole reproductive life, that
becomes a reason for sterility in Armenia. Indicator of the acquired
sterility of the young Armenian women exceeds the averaged indicators
in the countries of the Western Europe 3 times. According to different
assessments, 30% of women in Armenia suffer sterility, 25-26% of them
suffer secondary sterility because of frequent abortions and diseases
which are transmitted in sexual way.
G. Hayrapetyan thinks that reduction of the number of undesirable
sterility, which results in abortion, is one of the methods of modern
prevention of sterility. Along with it, unprotected sexual relations
negatively affect the male health. Observations of the doctors have
shown that the cases of cancer of the urinary bladder and prostate
gland of men twice increased in Armenia over the latest 8-10 years. The
patients address the specialists only at a stage when it is impossible
to help them efficiently. 70% of men, who ask for medical aid, are
at the 3-4 stage of the disease.
