Turkey: Armenians To Vote For AKP
July 13, 2007 19 48 GMT

Sixty percent of Turkish Armenians are expected to vote for the
ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey’s July 22 elections,
Etyen Mahcupyan, editor of Turkish Armenian weekly Agos, told
Turkey’s Tempo Magazine on July 13. Mahcupyan said the remaining
Armenian vote would likely be split among the pro-secular opposition
Republican People’s Party, nationalist Young Party and center-right
Democrat Party. He said Armenians in Turkey’s second electoral region
will likely vote for independent leftist candidate Baskin Oran for
parliament.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
