YEREVAN, JULY 17, NOYAN TAPAN. Hovhannes Hovhannisian, the Chairman
of the Liberal Progressive Party of Armenia (LPPA), considers that
the first RA President Levon Ter-Petrosian is obliged to return to
politics. He stated this at the July 17 press conference.
In H. Hovhannisian’s words, the foundation of liberal democratic
national state was laid under L. Ter-Petrosian, the country gained a
victory in the Nagorno Karabakh war, economic reforms were implemented,
while no serious problem has been solved during the 10 years after
his resignation.
In the words of the LPPA leader, there is public demand of
L. Ter-Petrosian’s return, as many people consider him to be the
only leader, who is able to consolidate society. H. Hovhannisian
stated that if L. Ter-Petrosian’s candidature is nominated for the
presidential elections of 2008, the party will support it.
In H. Hovhannisian’s words, society is tired of the current
authorities, but sees no serious alternative to them for the
present. He said that parties’ consolidation and reduction of their
number is needed for the formation of the home political field,
but the authorities hamper this. H. Hovhannisian said that before
each elections the authorities create a new party, which calls forth
confusion in the political field.
It was mentioned that LPPA is ready to cooperate and even to unite with
liberal political forces close to them by ideology. H. Hovhannisian
did not refute the fermentations inside the party, but refused to
speak about it until the congress to be held in September.
