YEREVAN, JULY 19, ARMENPRESS: Head of a small Democratic party
Aram G. Sarkisian said today his party will support such a single
opposition presidential candidate who will enjoy a large popular
support and offer a platform and ideology that would be in tune with
his party’s approaches.

Speaking to a news conference he said not a presidential candidate
but his or her platform are important for his party.

Aram Sarkisian said the only and right development model for Armenia is
‘the democratic socialism,’ that served as a basis for some European
nations and China.

In a related development head of the United Communist party Yuri
Manukian called today on leaders of two other Communist parties to
put aside their differences and join in one party and nominate their
presidential candidate.

The other two parties are the Communist Party of Armenia, headed by
Ruben Tovmasian and the Progressive United Communist Party, headed
b Vazgen Safarian.

Manukian and Safarian are splinters from the Communist Party of
Armenia.

Manukian made similar calls in the past too, but they were declined
flatly by Tovmasian.

Manukian went as far as to warn today that if the other two decline
his proposal again he would expose their ‘smeared’ records.

Manukian argued that if joined the single Communist party may win as
many as 300,000 votes in 2008 election.
