STEPANAKERT, July 20. /ARKA/. The violations of the election process
recorded during the presidential elections in the Nagorno-Karabakh
Republic influenced the voting results but did not become decisive,
said NKR Deputy Foreign Minister Masis Mailyan running for the post.
According to Mailyan’s statement, the presidential elections of
July 19 became a marker in the NKR history and trial for the young
democracy of Karabakh. "Considering the issues from this perspective,
it should be pointed out that we fulfilled the main task that we had
– to conduct alternative elections and thus maintain the democratic
image of the NKR. Our contribution to this was the most influential
which itself is a victory," Mailyan said.
According to his assessments, his team did the best to give NKR people
a real possibility to realize their own choice and conduct elections
according to the law.
"Our principle position in the issue of violations and operative
reaction pursued the object of providing victory of law in our
country," the statement said.
Mailyan pointed out that in this situation and in the conditions of
incomparability of resources, over 8ths votes of the electorate are
a significant achievement for him.
"During the pre-election campaign and during the voting numerous
violations took place. Our pre-election headquarters turned to the
CEC for four times before July 19 and almost 20 times on the day of
elections. The violations, for sure, influenced the results of the
voting, however, they were not decisive," he said.
Mailyan thanked his electorate and all the people who supported him in
the pre-election period. "I declare about my readiness to remain till
the end next to those who risked for our common ideas. We will defend
their rights if there are attempts to violate them," Mailyan said.
The presidential elections in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic took place
on July 19. According to the NKR CEC, in the elections 71,285 people
participated, which makes 77.36% of the electorate.
According to the CEC NKR preliminary data, Head of the NKR National
Security Service Bako Sahakyan leads the list – 57,828 people or
85.42% of the electorate voted for him. NKR Deputy Foreign Minister
Masis Mailyan runs the second with 8,270 votes or 12.21%.
Over one hundred international observers from various countries, in
particular, from Armenia, Russia, France, Italy, Belgium, Macedonia,
Serbia and Czechia observed the presidential elections in the NKR.
