YEREVAN, JULY 23, NOYAN TAPAN. "I have been always engaged in politics,
in particular, in the context of art politics: the heroes of the plays
staged by me have always struggled for human rights and human values,"
producer Armen Mazmanian, the Art Director of the Goy theater, stated
at the July 20 discussion on the subject "Intelligentsia and Politics"
held at the Hayatsk dispute club.
In A. Mazmanian’s words, he does not accept the political activity
of the intellectuals, who appear immediately before elections. "I
think that an intellectual or any other person should be engaged in
politics in the period from one election to another and not on the
threshold of elections," the artist emphasized.
A. Mazmanian stated that "he has a very bad opinion of intellectuals,
especially "false ones," who consider themselves to be above any
kinds of situations saying that they are only interested in art. "I
do not accept the intellectuals, who, betraying the truth, receive
awards and titles in political coulisses," he said.
According to him, today an artist and art have lost people’s confidence
and respect: "Formerly, actor’s one word was worth more than the acts
done by the parties engaged in politics."
