ARMENIAN EXPORTS GROW BY 24.9% AND IMPORTS BY 45.3% IN JANUARY-MAY, AS COMPARED WITH SAME PERIOD OF PREVIOUS YEAR

YEREVAN, JULY 24, NOYAN TAPAN. RA foreign trade, in January-May,
2007, in current prices, made 551bn 808.7m drams or 1bn 536.33m USD,
including goods exports 151bn 972.3m drams or 423.58m USD, exports
399bn 836.4m drams or 1bn 112.75m USD. The foreign trade balance
is negative by 247bn 864.1m drams (689.2m USD), and without goods
received as humanitarian aid 236bn 876.1m drams (658.9m USD).
According to the data of the RA National Statistical Service, in
January-May, 2007, exports increased by 24.9% on January-May, 2006,
and imports by 45.3%.
In the first five months of 2007, exports to CIS countries made over
134.2m USD (the growth made 123% on the same period of 2006) and
imports nearly 322.1m USD (growth 53.9%), including exports to Russia,
which made 82.8m USD (grew by 185.2%) and imports over 209.85m USD
(grew by 65%), exports to Georgia made more than 29.5m USD (growth
38.8%) and imports nearly 40.9m USD (growth 45.9%).
Exports to the European Union countries made nearly 197.8m USD (growth
7.3%) and imports over 340.5m USD (growth 38.3%), including exports
to Belgium, which made more than 35.6m USD (decreased by 22.6%) and
imports 68.5m USD (grew by 3.1%), exports to Germany made over 61.9m
USD (grew by 4.2%) and imports more than 37.9m USD (grew by 6.6%),
exports to Netherlands made over 49m USD (decreased by 7.4%), and
imports nearly 11.8m USD (growth 22.9%).
Among other big trade partners of Armenia, exports to Israel made
nearly 14.5m USD (decreased by 59.1%) and imports more than 20.3m
USD (decreased by 50.1%), exports to the U.S. made nearly 18.7m USD
(decreased by 22.1%) and imports 73.2m USD (grew by 71.9%).
