YEREVAN, JULY 24, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Employment Service said the
unemployment rate at the beginning of July did not change remaining
at 7.2 percent. It said the highest unemployment rate of 16.2 percent
was in the northwestern province of Shirak, followed by Lori with
15,2 percent and southernmost Syunik with 15.1 percent.

According to the Employment Service, Armenia’s economically active
population was 1.1 million, of whom 92.4 percent had jobs.

It said the number of people looking for job was 100,400, and 84.4
percent or 84,700 people were jobless. Women continued to make the bulk
of jobless people with a share of 72 percent. The urban unemployment
was 93.6 percent.

The share of jobless people with higher education declined to 13.5
percent from 14.4 percent from a year ago. Almost 60 percent had
secondary education. More than half of jobless people are between
35-45.

According to the Employment Service, there is a big demand for workers,
but wages are low and labor conditions are poor.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
