HRANT DINK IS REWARDED WITH POSTHUMOUS "PRESS FREEDOM – 2007" PRIZE IN TURKEY

ISTANBUL, JULY 26, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. Hrant Dink, the
former editor-in-chief of the Weekly "Akos", was rewarded with the
posthumous "Press Freedom – 2007" prize by the Turkish Journalists’
Union (TJU) in the "Dolmabahche" palace in Istanbul on July 24.
Archbishop Mesrop Mutafian, the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople,
his widow, Rakel Dink, and others were present at the awards ceremony.
The prize, which has been awarded in Turkey since 1989 by the
Turkish Journalists’ Union, was given to Hrant Dink, the murdered
editor-in-chief of the Weekly "Akos", publisher Ragep Zarakolu and
lawyer Gulchin Chaylgil on behalf of the journalists and writers,
who were condemned and suffered on account of Article 301 of the
Criminal Code. The prize was handed to Rakel Dink, the widow of the
murdered editor-in-chief.
