Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian doesn’t intend to apply to
the court to restore his ten-year RA citizenship.
"I simply hope the acting authorities will correct their mistake and
provide equal footing by a new decree. If our opponents do not fear
free, and equal competition, there is the legal ground for correcting
the mistake with one decree," says the leader of the Heritage Party.
It is due to mention that Raffi Hovannisian applied for citizenship
in the 90s but got it in 2001.
Today Raffi Hovannisian declined to answer questions related to his
nomination though he didn’t exclude Heritage’s participation.
Currently Raffi Hovannisian is not thinking about the presidential
election. "The Heritage Party is now preparing for the election at
precinct 15 scheduled for August 26. I don’t deny that I may run
for presidency after the August 26 election," Raffi Hovannisian
said. According to the Heritage leader the party’s participation at
the election is not end in itself.
"If I lose, it will be a dignified defeat. I respect my opponents at
the electoral district. They are all respectable state officials who
can be a perfect alternative for the RA voters, Hovannisian said.
"We will discuss the remaining issues this autumn when we hold our
conference and make a decision on our approaches on the presidential
elections.
"The Heritage Party makes efforts to bring back its votes, and naming
its candidate is not primary. It is important that this time the
citizens of the Republic of Armenia will have a real alternative.
As for Hmayak Hovanisyan’s statement that after Azerbaijan’s
membership to NATO, the West will resolve the Karabakh issue in favor
of Azerbaijan, and bring Raffi Hovannisian to power, the Heritage
leader it is the fruit of imagination of the political scientist.
He is unaware of such a scenario. Everyone has the right to make
their forecast of developments, Raffi Hovannisian concluded.
