RUSSIAN MOBILE OPERATOR PROVIDES ROAMING SERVICE IN OCCUPIED AZERBAIJANI TERRITORIES

Azeri Press Agency, Azerbaijan
July 31 2007

Russian mobile operator Megafon Company provides international roaming
service in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, APA’s Russia bureau
reports. MegaFon is cooperating with Nagorno Karabakh Armenians’
company Karabakh Telekom.

Operators of Megafon subscriber service told APA that Khankendi,
Shusha, Lachin and Stepanakert are not among Azeri cities and advised
to search the company’s website. Karabakh Telekom has link among
MegaFon’s partners in Armenia on the website. It is noted that this
company has been engaged in the development of communication in
Nagorno Karabakh since 2002. Karabakh Telekom’s coverage includes
the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

"According to the official data of 2002, the population of Nagorno
Karabakh is 144,336. 56,782 of them live in the capital of Nagorno
Karabakh Republic. Nagorno Karabakh borders on Azerbaijan in the
north-east, Iran in the south and Armenia in the west," Karabakh
Telekom’s website writes.

Azerbaijani Communication and Information Technologies Ministry told
APA that they are unaware of the case.

"The case will be investigated. If we find out such a fact, we will
appeal to the relevant bodies of Russia," the ministry said.

Russian embassy in Azerbaijan refused commenting on the case.

Azerbaijani embassy in Russia appealed to MegaFon Company in 2005
and stated that their cooperation with the separatist regime is
inadmissible.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
