Khosrov Harutunyan, chairman of the Armenian Christian-Democratic
Union, believes the opposition’s postulate to propose a common
candidate at the presidential elections is "artificial." Harutunyan
said so during a meeting with reporters. The union chairman said
opposition consists of many different forces, starting from socialists
and ending with extreme liberals.
Under these conditions it is impossible to find a single person
that can meet the positions of all political forces, Harutunyan
believes. However, the union leader said it may be possible to
propose a single candidate if all political forces get united around
the single aim of the acting administration overthrow. "This idea
has used itself up after 1996 September events," Harutunyan said
excluding the overthrow of the government, too.
