The Armenian opposition moves to self-destruction with confident
steps, ex-Minister of RA National Security, member of the former
ruling party in Armenia the Armenian National Movement, Head of the
Center of Politological Studies David Shahnazaryan.
He said that the course and results of May 12, 2007, parliamentary
election and the present situation in the country on the threshold
of the presidential election indicate that if the situation will
further develop in such a way, the authorities will not even have
to falsify the presidential election: they will easily and calmly
gain the victory. No ideological basis, only personal ambitions and
senseless back-door consultations – that is the present opposition
which allowed the authorities to press itself in the frames of rules
convenient for them, D. Shahnazaryan said. He also said unification
on the ideological basis and nomination of a single candidate is the
only chance for the opposition. However, no unification is envisaged,
to all appearances, and tens of single candidates from opposition
will take part in the election. "In view of this, I do not see any
worthy rival to RA PM Serzh Sargsyan in the presidential election",
Shahnazaryan said.
As for possible participation of the first president of Armenia Levon
Ter-Petrosyan in the presidential campaign, the political analyst
advised to address the ex-president’s administrative office with
this question.
"Participation or non-participation of Ter-Petrosyan in the election
is from the area of guesses and assumptions , but I do not like to
do it", Shahnazaryan said.
