ARMENIA’S MINISTER OF EDUCATION, DIASPORAN TEACHERS DISCUSS PROBLEMS OF ARMENIAN COMMUNITIES ABROAD

YEREVAN, August 13. /ARKA/. RA Minister for Education Levon Mkrtchian
met today with teachers from the Armenian Diaspora who pass annual
training courses in Yerevan.

During the meeting, the Minister introduced educational reforms in
Armenia to 30 teachers from 11 different countries, the press service
of the RA Ministry for Education reports.

Participants to the meeting discussed issues of establishing
Armenian-Diasporan bilateral relations in the educational sphere,
as well as problems of Armenian communities abroad.

Mkrtchian was concerned about the decrease of Armenian students in
Diasporan schools. Therefore, he attached importance to the patriotic
mission of Armenian teachers abroad.

In their turn, the teachers were concerned about the issues of
teaching Armenian as a foreign language, providing handbooks and
teaching materials, establishing departments of Armenian Studies
in higher educational institutions abroad, as well as the possible
financing of those programs from the RA state budget.

Participants to the meeting also discussed prospects of training
specialist for Armenian communities abroad, as well as organizational
issues connected with visits of Diasporan students to Armenia.
