Galust Sahakyan, member of the Armenian Republican Party (HHK)
block, was asked by reporters at Pastark Club today about his
opinion on Dashnaksutiun’s suggestion which says it would be better
for the interests of the country if the parliamentary majority and
the president of the republic come from different political forces
ensuring balance of power mechanisms in the country’s governance.
"In its sense, it is a weak political "trick" in order to tell the
Republicans that the country will be stronger in case you restrain
yourself and we go forward. It is not possible to do anything like
that in the political field."
Asked about Artashes Geghamyan’s suggestion that the opposition and
authorities in power may come up with a single candidate during the
presidential elections, following the example of Nagorno Karabakh,
Sahakyan said: "It is a little romantic for the opposition and
authorities to unite and decide who should be the presidential
candidate," "It may simply be possible to come up with some
arrangements and decide the place of this or that political force in
the political field according to election outcomes," he said.
